Introductory workshop

The main objectives of the introductory workshop were: 

  • a more detailed presentation of the relevant expert topics for the design of green spaces to promote physical activity by the UIRS team. 
     
  • to ascertain the needs and expectations of the future users of the guidelines; and

Workshop 1: Aspects of green space planning and quality

Ljubljana: 27 March 2018 at 9.00 am  

Part 1: field trip (North City Park - Navje, Ljubljana and other open spaces in the city centre)
Part 2: Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of Slovenia, Trnovski pristan 2, Ljubljana

The main objectives of the workshop were: 

  • to present different public open spaces in Ljubljana (field visit) and to discuss the design of these spaces to promote physical activity,
     
  • experiencing green spaces and walkability in practice - experiencing the attractiveness and suitability of space for walking and other activities, the importance of experiencing space, the connectivity of open spaces in urban area,
     
  • to present the complexity of spatial planning and the process of planning green spaces through an example - from the definitions in the municipal plan (OPN) and the green system to the implementation level and aspects of management and maintenance (example of the visited North City Park Navje in Ljubljana),
     
  • outlining the starting points for criteria and indicators for green spaces to promote physical activity, which will form the basis for the development of guidelines.

Workshop 3: Testing guidelines for green space planning and design to promote physical activity on the pilot case of the Municipality of Kočevje 

Ljubljana: 24 January 2019 at 9.00 a.m.

The main purpose of the workshop was to verify the possible process of defining guidelines for the planning and design of green spaces to promote physical activity and active lifestyles, using the municipality of Kočevje as a case study. The workshop included a presentation of the Kočevje analyses and the starting points for the development of the guidelines, folowing with a discussion on the draft guidelines based on the findings of the analyses and a coordination on further work.

Workshop 4: Inter-sectoral consultative workshop on the development of public health guidelines for the design of green spaces to promote physical activity and healthy lifestyle

Ljubljana: 9 May 2019 at 10.00 am 
UIRS - Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of Slovenia, Trnovski pristan 2, 1000 Ljubljana  

The workshop was held in three parts:

  • Part 1 was dedicated to the presentation of the project and the workshop participants,
     
  • Part 2 was a guided discussion aimed at exchanging views, finding common points of networking to support the themes of health promotion and physical activity.
     
  • In Part 3, the issues of involving spatial planners in the process of drafting spatial planning documents (strategic and implementation level) were discussed.

Round table "Going Out for Health"

Designing green spaces to promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles

The Going Out for Health programme consists of a comprehensive overview of the various aspects for the appropriate design, renovation and management of green spaces to achieve a healthy and quality living environment.

The result of the programme is a handbook that substantiates the importance and possibilities of integrating spatial planning and public health, and comprehensively presents the relevant aspects of designing appropriate and attractive green spaces for the active use of the outdoor space of cities and settlements. The programme is co-funded by the Ministry of Health and is part of the "Dober tek Slovenia" effort for more exercise and healthier eating.

The purpose of the roundtable is to present in more detail the expert aspects addressed by the manual and to exchange views and opinions on how it can be used in spatial planning that promotes healthy lifestyles.
